One of the best ways to get started with paper Magic is joining events at your local game store and the easiest format to get into is standard.
Today I’m featuring one of the cheapest decks you can play in your LGS for FNM.
It’s fun, has loads of options for upgrades and that is: Saheeli Tokens
This is the list from MTG Goldfish and I decided to try this on Arena:
2 Beacon Bolt
3 Chart a Course
3 Enigma Drake
4 Evolving Wilds
4 Izzet Guildgate
4 Lightning Strike
4 Murmuring Mystic
4 Radical Idea
4 Saheeli, Sublime Artificer
4 Tormenting Voice
The deck was definitely loads of fun especially when you bring out Saheeli as every non-creature spell created a 1/1 servo. Her ability to have an artifact copy something else has some synergies with Murmuring mystic or crackling drake.
I could cast a drake, copy one of the servos and swing for drake power/
I could also go double the bird tokens by having 2-3 Murmuring mystics by having a servo copy it.
If you have the budget, I would definitely transform this to an Phoenix deck. Switching the lands out to Steam vents and Sulfur falls is definitely on the to-do list, switching out the basic lands and Izzet guild-gates.
Another possible route is to have this deck transform into the infinite combo with Ral, storm conduit. 4 Copies of Ral and 4 Expansion // Explosions can immediately transform and change the strategy from a token combo to an "infinite ping" combo.
Overall it is a great starting point to building a deck that has loads of potential to transforming into a competitive deck.
So some of you might be asking.. Is it Tier 1? Definitely not.. But we're not talking Mythic Pro League here.. Can you bring this to an FNM and get decent results? Definitely!
And most importantly, the deck IS FUN.
So give this a go and have fun spell-slinging!
